Map of the Day: Malford's Launch

Malford's Launch is a growing ferry stop located on the primary route that runs up and down the east coast of the local region. The ferry connects the town to Malford Island -- approximately six miles offshore. While the ferry has been around for over a century, the town has been growing impressively over the past decade as a result of residential growth on Malford Island. The ferry is run by the local liege lord and is quite mundane compared to the power struggles between original residents and immigrants elsewhere in town.

Notable Locations

  1. Sheriff's Office
The first building encountered when approaching the coast from the west, it's a beacon that suggests starting trouble in this town is ill-advised. Contains four jail cells and four unquestioned deputies.
  2. Carpter Park
Originally a beautiful park that is now run down and full of litter. Damage to the park is causing localized flooding problems. Two of the original entrances to the park are now residential houses.
  3. Upper-class Mansions
  4. "Downtown"
  5. Mudders Roadworks
Contracted by the local liege to regularly repair the roads -- draining mud, freeing trapped vehicles, and cleaning litter.
  6. Groog and Son Construction
  7. Saltzman Fisheries
  8. Ferry Station
This is the ticket office and travel hub for people headed to Malford Island. There's also a small cafe.
  9. Maggie's Tavern
A large hotel and bar setup.
  10. Municipal/Mayor's Offices
  11. Outlying Stores
Includes Yenil's Bakery and Jingo's Produce.

Town Quests

  • The Sheriff's Office, having been charged to maintain the peace at all costs, often overreaches their authority and will arrest people for even trivial infractions. The local population in the lower-class "Downtown" area is particularly on edge.
  • Carpter Park was once a scenic wonder that was a tourist attraction in its own right. However, Mayor Franklin Tengrim sold parcels of land on the edges of the park to make extra money for the town, Groog and Son (Tengrim's son is married to Groog's daughter), and himself. Now, the original citizens are bitter at the loss and damage to the land.
  • Vehicles that get stuck in the muddy roads must be removed by order of the liege lord. While Mudders Roadworks will remove a vehicle for free, they charge outrageous fees to do so without damage. The foreman has decades-old plans hidden away in his private office for a paved road system.
  • Saltzman Fisheries is the first non-ferry-related business in town. They bump heads with the ferry people over room at the docks. They also have problems with invasions from the local wildlife due to the dead fish being stored there.
  • Maggie's Tavern is the largest hotel in town and owner Maggie Haggard uses her money to influence local politics. She spins the wheels behind the scenes to her advantage. No hotel can build near the ferry station as long as she has a say.
  • The Outlying Stores consist of several new businesses. They are having hard times because none of the old-school locals will shop there and there isn't enough traffic to keep them afloat. Each store sells different items, so they don't compete.
Jingo's Produce has two floors of rooms. Maggie Haggard from Maggie's Tavern allows them to operate to defend herself against monopolistic accusations.
Yenil's Bakery has a basement that paved over an old troll cave, but the trolls have clawed back through the wall. The bakery is currently closed until the situation can be resolved.
