Map of the Day: Garthmound

map of Garthmound

Garthmound is a medium-sized fishing village located on the major trade road between two large cities. At first only an emergency stop for those seeking a nice fish dinner, it has grown over the past two decades into a legitimate trading hub full of local vendors. However, the fisheries have also continued to grow -- pitting the major players against one another as they jostle to control the river.

Town Quests

  • Corvolis and Sons is a local fishery that is looking to gain market share so they can rival the top dog: Pewter Fisheries. To do that, they are attempting to push out Maggie's Fisheries, a small time family shop run by Maggie Aldain -- the soft-spoken daughter of Frank Aldain, founder of Maggie's Fisheries, who died suddenly two years ago under suspicious circumstances.
  • Snob Hill is home to several nobles from a nearby city who have made this area their vacation home. Their grounds are patrolled by private guards who regularly travel further into the village than they should to harass the locals -- who they consider lesser people.
  • Albear LaRosh, the proprietor of the Happy Llama, has regular troubles with large rats that crawl up out of the sewer connection he has in the basement. The sewers are where the local fisheries dump their refuse fish parts -- causing the creatures that live there to grow quite large.
  • John Pewter, age 62, is a fair man who has single-handedly turned this small village into a place of note along the trade routes. He is well respected and is very careful to maintain the status quo -- though there are still those who would like to take his place. He has no heir nor wife and suffers from the occasional depression.
  • As a side industry, the mayor has encouraged the building of a larger-than-usual jail in order to house long-sentence prisoners from other neighboring towns and cities as a source of revenue.
  • The Mayor, Beatrix Klemp, 36, is far too busy passing herself off as a noble to keep track of the happenings in her town. She has converted several rooms in the upper floor of the Mayor's House into a grand ballroom -- complete with hardwood floors and grand draperies -- at significant personal expense leaving her desperate for cash.
  • Several fishermen, while attempting to work at night down on the central docks, have been attacked and slightly injured by what they have described as "glowing merpeople".
